SUMMARY:National Field Station Conservation Survey
DESCRIPTION:Private conservation lands are an important part of protecting ecosystems and preventing habitat loss throughout the country. Field stations\, in particular\, contribute to conservation and provide opportunities for research\, education\, and training for our future environmental scientists and leaders. \nAuburn University College of Forestry\, Wildlife and Environment (CFWE) together with The Jones Center at Ichauway have developed a survey to document and investigate the 1) background and missions\, 2) conservation focus and land management strategies\, 3) collaborative partnerships\, and 4) outdoor recreation opportunities of field stations.\nWe are asking that one representative from each field station located in the United States respond to this survey. The survey was developed independently of the Organization of Biological Field Stations. However\, OBFS has reviewed the survey and provided guidance and support. Though limited\, a few questions OBFS has asked in the past may also appear on this survey. The survey will take approximately ten to fifteen minutes to complete. \nYour answers will further document the important conservation role of field stations. We will be sharing our final report with OBFS and all respondents. Respondents will also receive a 2-page information sheet demonstrating how their specific field station fits within the larger conservation network. \nThe survey opened on Monday\, July 8th\, and will close on September 6th. We ask that the survey be completed by a representative familiar with the field station’s land management and administrative organization. The survey is about field stations and there are no personal questions. Your participation is voluntary and we do not foresee any risks. \nWe appreciate and value your input and look forward to receiving your completed survey. \nThe survey can be accessed with the following link (or copy and paste the URL into your browser): \n https://auburn.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d1fUZiIcpdTKcXY

SUMMARY:Virtual Café: el papel de las estaciones de campo y el esfuerzo científico - Virtual Café: The Role of Field Stations in Scientific Research
DESCRIPTION:Tenemos como enfoque hablar sobre los esfuerzos de investigación que se realizan en sus estaciones biológicas latinoamericanas del sureste de la amazonía peruana.\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will talk about Latin American research efforts based at field stations in the southeast region of the Peruvian Amazon. \n\n\n\nEl PhD. Dr. Geoff Gallice (Finca Las Piedras Biological Field Station) will talk about his project: “Diversity and Biology of Lepidoptera: A Model for Science and Education”. He will address the scope of the scientific research effort on tropical Lepidoptera: diversity and distribution\, reporting of host plants and breeding of immature Lepidoptera\, and the training of local students in Lepidopterology. \nJulie Van den Broeck (Estación biológica Cocha Cashu) hablara acerca de: \nEstación Biológica Cocha Cashu: Punto Clave para la Investigación Ecológica y Educación en la Amazonía Peruana”. Nos enseñaran los esfuerzos de investigación científica y educación ambiental en una de las estaciones biológicas más antiguas y remotas del sureste peruano\, situada en el interior del Parque Nacional del Manu: punto con mayor diversidad de flora y fauna del Perú.\nJulie Van den Broeck (Cocha Cashu Biological Station Station Manager) will talk about: “Cocha Cashu Biological Station: Key Point for Ecological Research and Education in the Peruvian Amazon.” She will present the scientific research projects and environmental education in one of the oldest and most remote biological stations in southeastern Peru. Cocha Cashu is located inside the Manu National Park and in one area features the greatest diversity of flora and fauna in Peru. \n\nIng. Focused on the work of AIDER (the institution that manages the Tambopata National Reserve)\, Silvana will describe the various programs\, scholarships\, and associations that enable the local and foreign community to carry out scientific research inside the Reserve.\n\n\n  \n\nTranslation/Simultaneous interpretation services will be provided by www.Communica.co.cr.\n  \nZOOM ID:  https://us06web.zoom.us/j/86075857863?pwd=bQqGTI180g1QCaCg9K114Of7bLrfIN.1
