Bouamir Research Station

Bouamir Research Station is located in mature Northwest Congolian lowland forest on a 25km² study area at the center of the Dja Faunal Reserve in the African nation of Cameroon.  The station supports research and teaching in a mature humid tropical rainforest, and offers an opportunity to study one of the most understudied places on the planet–the forests of Central Africa.  The station has a growing trove of weather and floral and faunal data, as well as LiDAR of the 25km² study area to help researchers understand a region that is home to nearly one in five species and stores approximately 80 billion tons of carbon.  The station also has a robust partnership with local communities, including with the indigenous Baka people, who can partner on research and provide traditional ecological knowledge to enhance research activities.  We strongly encourage any international researchers to create meaningful collaborations with local and regional researchers, and can help identify potential collaborators.  The station is operated by an partnership between the Congo Basin Institute, UCLA, and Cameroon’s Ministry of Forestry and Fauna
