Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies is an independent non-profit that supports basic environmental research with the potential for transformative impact. We are dedicated to understanding how ecosystems work. Through collaborative efforts, we apply our science to policy and management that protects the environment and improves human well-being. We are recognized leaders in many areas where we have specific expertise (e.g. the study of fresh water and forest ecosystems, the ecology of urban environments, disease ecology) and on understanding the key drivers of ecological change (climate change, invasive species, and human influence on land and water).
