The Mendocino College Coastal Field Station provides 1) students and faculty a site for high-impact learning addressing open-ended, real-world challenges, 2) researchers access to a unique and diverse ecosystem for discovery and 3) outreach opportunities to the community to foster environmental stewardship. The approximately 15-acre Field Station site, with its original Coast Guard structures and surrounded by the California Coastal National Monument, has provided unique opportunities for students of the natural sciences to study marine life, the California coastal prairie ecosystem and the many incredible geological features in the area. For more than 40 years the Field Station has directly supported the mission of Mendocino College by fostering high-impact experiential learning across all disciplines, welcoming researchers from a broad spectrum of human inquiry, and encouraging community engagement in the enterprise of education.
