How to Submit Articles to the Quarterly OBFS Newsletter

Typewriter

The newsletter is a vital component of OBFS’s reach and visibility. Please consider contributing! As a reminder, our audience includes the OBFS community (station directors, staff, OBFS station representatives), affiliates at partnering institutions (NSF, AIBS, LTER, ESA), decision-makers (congressional staff, local officials, and regulatory agencies), donors to OBFS, and station visitors.

The Newsletter comes out quarterly in February, May, August, and November. Below are the deadlines for submission.

  • 15-January for the February issue
  • 15-April for May issue
  • 15-July for August issue
  • 15-October for November issue

Content for newsletter includes, but is not limited to:

  • News stories, publications, notices, and professional development opportunities, of interest to field station directors
  • Advances, press releases, milestones, and research findings from member stations
  • A station profile: history, facilities, focus, achievements, a photo, and how to visit
  • News from OBFS (President’s greeting, committee update, upcoming events)
  • Updates from affiliates
  • An interview featuring someone from the OBFS community
  • Photos (etc. historical, fieldwork, lab work, presentations, outreach)

Content is typically ~300-350 words per item submitted. Please send content to newsletter@obfs.org. Please also contact us for inquiries about longer articles (which we encourage!).

Articles must be submitted in Microsoft Word (or similar text editor). Pictures and other graphics should be submitted as a jpeg, tiff, or png. Please provide a caption for each photo and clearly identify who has written the article with their contact info. Articles may be edited for clarity or space. Do not submit previously copyrighted materials. All submissions become the property of the Organization of Biological Field Stations.

We encourage you to continue to use the listserv (obfs-mail-list@ucdavis.edu) and this website for job announcements, upcoming courses, inquiries, and discussions about issues relevant to the OBFS community.

A massive thank you to Stacy McNulty, the OBFS Editor, for assembling the quarterly newsletters!
